Shehanas is a PhD student (2021-2025) with Prof. Harder, based at Fudan University with Chinese Government Scholarship by the Chinese Scholarship Council. With her background as a researcher and consultant for policy design, she assists the team in understanding how to make their work relevant to policy, and related implementation. As an Indian team member, she ensures the work can be related to that part of the world, and helps understanding of practice on the ground there. Shehanas’ PhD thesis will focus on Social Impact Assessment within Environmental Impact Assessment, especially the pragmatics of developing WeValue InSitu as a new generation tool for understanding local preferences in scoping stages. Shehanas was involved in both phases of data collection for 'UKRI GCRF Action against Stunting Hub' for WeValue InSitu Workshops in India, as well as data analysis for various projects, including India.

In the past Shehanas has worked on various projects spanning gender, development, sustainability, impact assessments, environment, carbon market, agriculture and climate change. Prior to starting at Fudan, Shehanas worked as a research consultant and research assistant at Evidence for Policy Design (EPoD) India at IFMR, at Harvard Kennedy School and then as a research consultant at Evidence for Policy Design (EPoD) India at Krea University, at Macmillan Centre, Yale. During her time at EPoD, she was also associated at International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) as a team member for a qualitative health and nutrition study. She has also worked as visiting faculty at Flame University (Pune, India) with the Department of Environment and Development. From 2021 to 2022. She has worked as a research head at NuSocia.
Shehanas was an Environmental Defense Fund (EDF), Climate Corps Fellow of 2023 India cohort, where she worked on a report for PULA advisors on carbon markets and small-scale agriculture in the developing countries. She also received the best business case award from the 2023 EDF Climate Corps fellowship India cohort. With a background in implementation research and project management focused on policies, Shehanas would like to pursue a career specializing in climate change adaptation and mitigation in the development sector.
