Role in WeValue team

Annabel Chapman is a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow, after finishing her PhD (2020-2023) with Prof. Harder, based at the University of Brighton, UK. Her background is in Nutrition, and Public Health, and she has played a vital role in helping the team understand how to develop WeValue InSitu for pragmatic use in those fields, including how health and development fields need concepts to be presented so they can be more easily related to current research conversations. She advises other team members on ethics procedures. Having been involved in over 60 WeValue workshops in four countries, Annabel is a team resource for field training, handbook development, and general advice.

Profile

My academic background is in Food Science and Human Nutrition. Through previous roles I have worked in research and community engagement within health and social care services in the UK. I am currently working as a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow on the Shared Values workstream of the UKRI GCRF Action Against Stunting Hub (AASH). My research is currently focusing on how lived experiences of the Nutrition Transition in India can inform multi-level solutions to the double-burden of malnutrition and how evaluating intangible project legacies may be a useful contribution to the evaluation of equitable partnerships in Global Health projects.

My PhD thesis was also based within the Shared Values workstream of the AASH and focused on using a values lens to create culturally-informed protocols to guide engagement with local communities and the design of more ethical and socially acceptable interventions. I have also worked on the iPACT project, based in the UK, facilitating WeValue InSitu workshops amongst local community groups in Morecambe, Southampton and Norfolk. Throughout my work using the WeValue InSitu approach I have achieved Level 5: Full Facilitator in the facilitator levels, meaning that I am certified to lead WeValue sessions for a wide range of cultures and sectors. I have also gained experience in training new facilitators alongside the project lead (i.e. working towards Level 6).
